This Summer we decided to travel North to visit Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor Maine. On our way through Maine we decided to stop in a cute coastal town called Camden for 1 night. Camden is absolutely beautiful and I don’t think enough people know about it, because if they did everyone would be here! The views are so pretty and it has amazing small town vibes. The saying goes, “Maine, the way life should be” and I totally see understand what they mean by that now. The Maine coast is so beautiful and Camden is a total gem. This area is rich with history and offers an abundance of locally-owned shops, art galleries, bed and breakfasts, and delicious food. Camden is just begging to be explored. I’m sharing 5 fun things you must do if you ever find yourself in Camden, Maine.
1.) Visit the Owls Head Light House
Our First stop was this cute light house in Rockland (which is like 5 minutes outside of Camden). You can’t go to Maine and not see the light houses. This one was really beautiful and you can even go inside and hear all about it’s history!
2.) Walk to the Rockland Breakwater Light house
Since it was a pretty long drive we needed some caffeine so we grabbed some iced coffees and decided to check out the Rockland Breakwater light house. This lighthouse was stunning and such a peaceful walk. Make sure you wear sneakers or comfortable shoes though, because it’s about a mile walk to get to it and there are little cracks between the rocks.
3.) Explore Downtown Camden
The downtown views are straight from a book. Everywhere you look there is pretty shades of blue and sail boats. Coastal towns are my absolute favorite and Camden was no exception. There are so many gems worth exploring like charming little store fronts, coffee shops, art galleries and more!
4.) Grab a Bite to Eat
The food options are abundant in downtown Camden. We had planned on grabbing dinner at Rhumbline (as we heard so many good things about it), but unfortunately it was closed the evening we were there. So we went on a little stroll downtown in search of somewhere else to eat and ended up at Sea Dog Brewing Company. We arrived just in time for happy hour and had some delicious appetizers, oysters, burgers, and of course their famous blueberry wheat ales! Blueberries are a big deal in Maine.
5.) Stay the Night in the Cutest Hotel
We found the cutest hotel nestled right in downtown Camden and we were so in love with it. I highly recommend staying at the gorgeous Whitehall. It was built in 1901, but was renovated in 2015 and it has allll the charm. It was decorated beautifully, the beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was incredible. They had so many different dishes to choose from like prosciutto wrapped mozzarella with melons, overnight peanut butter oats, and egg muffins. One of our favorite parts about this hotel (besides the fresh baked banana bread upon arrival) was the outdoor area. It was so beautiful to sit by the fire, sip wine, play lawn games, and meet new friends!
From Camden we drove about an hour and a half to Acadia National Park (another must see)! You can read all about that trip here. I hope you enjoyed reading this.
